6 SIGNS YOUR OUTDOOR SUMMER EXERCISE MAY BE HARMFUL
Heat-related deaths are on the rise…. and may rise an additional 20 percent over the next decade, according to a new study based on global temperature change. What you need to do to avoid being a victim of Duval County Heat!
In some years, heat is the biggest killer among all types of severe weather. More than 1,250 people died nationwide during the devastating U.S. heat wave of 1980. 465 heat-related deaths were reported in Chicago during a 16-day period as recently as 1995. Children and elderly are dying in greater numbers.
When temperatures rise above 90 degrees, everyone is at risk, especially those who are overweight, elderly, or very young. Many of us begin walking, exercising and spending more time outside unaware of these risks. Here are the signs that you need to know to stay safe this Summer.
SIGNS OF HEAT RELATED INJURY
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Flushed or pale skin
- Heavy Sweating
- Headaches
If you see someone experiencing any of these signs, or you experience them yourself, immediately move to a cool place, drink cool water and apply ice packs or wet cool cloths to your skin.
Before going outside to improve your Summer body, be sure to drink plenty of water.
